You wouldn't guess it from my infrequent post about food, but we come from quite a foodie and food obsessed family. Growing up in Italy, our grandparents owned a store that made and sold fresh pasta daily, as well as bread and pastries. We grew up on a farm in the italian countryside where we grew lots of our own fruit vegetables and wine.
When we get together at my dads you can be sure of one thing, the food is always good.
This time we celebrated our little brothers birthday.
The menu was :
radicchio garden salad
aged Mascarpone cheese with my dads own honey drizzled over it.
bruschetta toasted over an open fire with tomato garlic and artichoke spread
the most unbelievable steak
chicken skewers for the kids with lemon garlic and dill
sweet corn
raspberry apricot crisp with whipped cream.
Beer, Lambrusco wine, Prosecco.
There is some nostalgia being at my dads house, it is the home we moved to fresh from italy, and the last family home we have known. It is very run down, and he keeps it as a kind of overgrown urban farm, keeping bees in his backyard, growing high alfalfa in the front yard instead of grass, and with towering deciduous trees trees in need of trimming in the back.
He is an avid gardener, and the shed is often filled with garlic, squashes, onions and boxes of fruit.
There are some cellular memory smells in this place, it was fun to share it again with my siblings and the grandkids now.
Happy weekend
