Updated crocheted trees

Last year I came up with these little crocheted evergreen trees.
This year I have taken it a step farther and created different shapes, crochet stitches and colors of foliage. A perfect play companion for the wooden houses.
The tops and wood bases are interchangeable .

Wrapped sticks

The inspiration for these little mini art pieces came to me while overnighting in the Colorado Rockies. They are Aspen saplings, and smooth driftwood pieces, collected from the river banks after the floods. They are wrapped in the most vibrant wool and cotton threads.
They are so beautiful, I love the idea of them displayed in a clear vase in the home, or hung on a wall, or a shelf.
They add a touch of beautiful Bohemian ethnic gorgeousness to any space.

"So what have you been making?"

If I am not getting asked that question I am hearing it asked inside my own head.
Oh, I answer without speaking, you mean besides beds, and meals and all that goes with having 3 children home for 11 weeks straight and a husband who is working crazy summertime hours and is barely home?
Well..
here in fact are a few things we have been making:

I made them playdough:  they made me birthday cakes
a gratuitous shot of the sunroom, you always need that
I slipped in some watercolor time i'm not sure when

 a playdough nest
She made herself this necklace, ALONE, and let me tell you if there is one thing I cannot do its jewelry
that's her and her papa, a card for fathers day. The leg length is about right i'd say
Malawi's card: "dad I love you so from hand to toe"

and what has been occupying my days. mountains and fountain of blocks, I am trying to build up stock for the fall/winter, It has been all encompassing, I cant seem to do anything else except for you know, the feeding the children thing)
inspired by the geometric designs, and using the same color palette, Imani made me this "abstract art" painting.
I love it

ready to be put away in these boxes
I have been trying my hand at branch weaving, it is interesting, and I like the use of natural fibers and found wood, time consuming though

another gratuitous shot:
our new bathroom rug, because that's a big boy peeing standing up,and I love the colors so
early morning bathroom
And lastly fashion friday!
he dressed himself

Play and whimsy

I spent a good part of the weekend working on an order for another mom, creating something beautiful and whimsical for her children (i assume) to play with.
It was rewarding, but I experienced this feeling of, "but wait, what about MY kids!? I have failed in making THEM something beautiful and playful and fun, Boo!
So in between decorating the xmas tree, grocery store runs, housecleaning and endless food production,(seriously, it never ends, the food thing) I made these animals, out of thin foam board, paint, wooden dowels and fasteners, so fast and so fun.
Then we went to the park to play with them, and then to the creek to throw rocks in :)

Malawi crying because Imani wouldn't give him back the polar bear

It was such a nice day out, in spite of the brown and dry vegetation..
sigh.
Then we sang Christmas carols around our newly decorated tree, and went to sleep.
Welcome December
