Weekend roundup

I have been using my phone to photograph more and more, and really its become a discipline to bring out the bulky camera,  one that I worked on a bit this weekend, amid the gazillion of small things that otherwise took up our time.

I have decided that as an artist, wife and mother of 3 young children all there are are fleeting moments of beauty,I look over amid the bustle and something catches my eye, a composition, a detail, a juxtaposition of patterns, a gradation of colors, a stream of light.

Here are a few randoms from our weekend, that was spent mostly home, where else?

I love that we have a free open art table, because the kids will grab a paper and just draw, or paint, then run off to something else.I find the treasures later

malawi and Imani played and played and played, i loved that this was a mama (white) with a baby (brown) as paired by the mind of sweet little malawi and his dirty fingers

Memorial day weekend

We spent the weekend doing honey-do lists, like finally putting up curtains to cover the closet mess, cleaning and ridding out, Also we lucked out and had a lovely party with family on the one day of semi sun in a long time. It was delicious food, and grand family time had.

Weekend recap

We had a hard weekend. 

Post holiday post birthdays letdown, grandma leaving town again,

day 5 of the kids home with no school, and nothing to do...

mostly two parents who would have happily given a limb to 

REST. 

Sit in their pjamas and watch football from sunup to sundown, (one of them)

and  movies in bed all day (the other)

alas the squabbling, needs,messes, boredom, chaos and incredible heaviness of the kids was right there waiting for us.

Some days are just excruciating, try as might, things just suck, we suck.

yesterday was one of them.

Here are the few highlights of the weekend:

Imani built fairy gardens in the backyard

And chalk mermaids in the driveway

Imani and Malawi camped out in their "fort" (that counted for exactly 26 minutes of calm,

I timed it)

I locked myself in my car and talked on the phone to my best girl friend in Panama for about an hour,

interrupted every 5 minutes by her loud and cheerful greetings and banter to half the town as she walked along, boy did it make me realize how lonely and isolated we were here, on a 

sunday evening,

trapped in suburbia.

Today is a new day!

never was I more glad to pack the little ones off to school.
