Excerpts from our day:
Imani examining an Annatto pot, called Natta or Achiote here, it is used to add color and flavor to foods. It is an amazing little tree that produces these red seed pods full of waxy red dye. Recently the last uncontacted amazonian tribe was aerialy photographed, you can see that HERE
This was found to be planted all around their dwellings, as well as manioch and banana. They apparently cover their skin with the shiny red wax.
Imani wants to be a little indian girl soooo bad
avocado tree
loaded with little avocados
a cashew fruit from the neighbors yard.
Do you know each big cashew fruit only produces one nut, it is inside that little seed pod on top of the fruit. Thats why they are so expensive!
M and little Rio, father from Basti and american mother, sharing the same heritage, and some toys
taking a walk, jungle side
along the way we ran into these boys good naturedly smoking an iguana they caught over an open fire, they are traditionally eaten here, and are extremely numerous on the island. They are sucking on "duro" little plastic bags filled with frozen fruit juice or kool-aid sold out of people's homes for 15 cents
golden sea fairy
this boy, and this hand embroidered shirt
for the love of Bougainvillea, or Veranera as it i called here, i just planted a bunch
what you cant tell from this pic, is that M is afraid these two little children will take the new ball his dad got him, and he is trying to stuff it in his pants, lol
