Blue room and things

Well it has happened, that moment when I looked around me at all the (off) white walls and physically yearned for color, this is not a euphemism or exaggeration in my life, but something true to me and real, that I really deeply feel.
So I painted an accent wall (yes, I am married to a painter, but he doesnt have time to paint for ME)
I loved it, it made me happy, so I painted another.
Here are those walls, and a few other shots from home:
ps: hubby did make me this amazing shabby chic headboard from 2 $ pieces of  reclaimed wood

lulu's crib
Imabi;s handpainted wood jewelry box and zebra hook
amazing flea market find, this vintage table, its really the coolest shade, pic hardly doing it justice

so green after all the rains
vintage flea market chairs
happy friday! woohoo,
we are painting our house tomorrow,
green!

Modge podge cup holders

We are on the tail end of our little bathroom remodel, and I have been looking for some cool interesting cupholders for our toothbrushes,
one day I got an idea....
I pulled out from my paper box this beautiful venetian hand made paper

and these mason glass jelly jars
I cut strips to size, and using modge podge and a paintbrush I sealed them to the jars

Modge podge, as well as acting as a glue, creates an invisible clear waterproof seal on the paper's surface when it dries.
It can also be used in the same way for fabric.
And there you have it, hunt no more,
create what you want and love!
Happy saturday

Snapshots from home

A hodgepodge of project, and moments from our home,
instead of buying new, we flea market,
and do lots of updating and upgrading with paint

bench and chair were my grandfathers, I painted them.

I should add a disclaimer, I am a sucker for Ikea,
and make exceptions for cool globally minded products like fair trade african baskets!
What's beautiful  in your home today >?
Happy Thursday

DIY patio upgrade

This was our side patio  when we first moved in....
nothing much to love there except the baby and the kitten.

Grey rough colorless cement.
There is nothing quite as ugly I think, Bob Marley put it perfectly
when he called it a CONCRETE JUNGLE

I started by painting the whole thing blue, with a cement epoxy turquoise paint.
I wish I was better at documenting my process, but i have limited time, home alone with 3 little ones,
and I doubt myself all the way til the very end result.
After painting I stenciled it:

these  turned out very cool

Imani pretends she is on a Grecian isle.....
the kitty likes it too
And there you have it,
a patio that I actually love to look at, and be on, and it is easily cleanable by spraying it with the hose if it gets muddy.

New yard, a few pictures

I have been thinking about taking all those nifty "before" and "after" shots of our house as we go along...but the truth is I am too horrified by the before, too much work, things in too bad of shape, just have to put our heads down and plow along.
The one place of solace for me right now is the yard, although it is neglected, the grass dead,  the dirt dry, and in need of about 100 bags of compost to amend the soil  (which believe it or not i am doing)
There is still a peaceful breezy sweetness out there, with lots of little birds chirping.

Favorite thing about the yard, amazing healthy, shade giving Aspen trees in the front
Plants for the sunroom
someone at some point loved this yard, there are beautiful flagstone rock beds everywhere,
I just get to fill them!

herbs
I collected and painted these little birdhouses for this very purpose

Massive arched Forsythia bush

Flox? not sure what these beautiful flowers are yet
